Hello there,
My name is 'Charlie Dinosaur' and I've been a member of Hospital Radio Burnley for about 9 years, I am about 65.000,000 years old...but I don't look it, that's because I think I found the elixirs of life when I was younger. It all started when I was out playing hide 'n' seek in the forest with my big brother and his friend 'Raptor'. It was my turn to hide so I scrambled up a hill and and I lost my footing, I found myself tumbling down the hill heading for a cave.
The cave mouth wasn't all that big but inside was absolutely massive...it was even big enough to house fifty diplidocus...and they are big...I've seen them. I desperately tried to climb out but I couldn't...After trying for hours, I was so tired I fell asleep. I thought that my brother and his friend 'Raptor' would find me.
I must have been asleep for a couple of hours and suddenly I was woken up by a terrifically big bang. The whole cave shook and shook and shook. I was so frightened, I ran deeper into the cave. I ran and ran until the cave got so small, I could go no further. I again fell into a rather disturbed sleep...I kept thinking about that loud bang and wondered what it could have been.
Hours seem to pass and I finally decided to try and get out of the cave. With the ground shaking so much there was a lot of big boulders and other stuff on the floor that made getting out that much harder. I eventually found the entrance to the cave and scrambled out. I noticed that it was very dark and thought it was nightime. I hid beneath a tree that had somehow mysteriously been burnt. I waited there for a very long time and realised that it wasn't getting any lighter.
I called out for my brother and Raptor, but no-one answered me. I made my way slowly back to the cave...it was so hard to find in the dark but I finally got there. I felt so grubby I sat in a shallow pool inside the cave and washed off all the dirt. While I was washing, a little bit of the water splashed into my mouth, it tasted so sweet, I took a big gulp. After a few minutes I started to feel strange...My head began to tickle and itch and my tummy felt like I had eaten lots of butterflies.
I fell into a deep sleep. When I woke I didn't know how long I had been asleep, so, I made my way back to the cave entrance. When I looked outside, the sky was a lovely deep blue and all the trees had lovely green leaves on them. I was a little stiff after my long sleep, I thought I'd take a walk. The grass was so green and lush, I took handsful and ate and ate till my belly felt full.
I had been walking for a few minutes when I saw a strange black thing, I stopped in my tracks and watched the mysterious object. After a few minutes I decided to take a closer look. The thing felt cold and hard to touch and didn't move. I could see inside and saw lots of strange things that fascinated me...I didn't notice something approaching behind me.
"Hello"? "Who are you"? This strange noise startled me and I tuned around in fright. There, in front of me, was an odd creature that I had never seen the likes of before...It had two arms, two legs and one head, it didn't look very menacing...but I thought to myself, take it easy and the thing might go away.
"Don't be frightened, I won't hurt you", "My name is John and I'm taking some photographs for Hospital Radio Burnley's web site" and with that he pointed a thing at me and there was a flash. "Look here" he said and walked towards me. I was a little scared but allowed him to come closer to me. He showed me the back of the black thing John, called a camera. There I saw an image of what I looked like in pools that I had peered into.
"I would love to take you back to the studios and introduce you to the rest of the staff", said John. I got into the shiney black thing and John put a black band around me and clicked it into a slot. Before long we arrived at the Radio Burnley studios and everyone was very excited to see me. They have now adopted me has the station mascot.
I never did find out what that big bang was...some people say that something fell out of the sky and destroyed the world...what do you think?
Every year we go to big fields in and around Burnley to meet people. the very little people love to come to me and give me a big cuddle...the older 'children' sometimes treat me cruel and like to hit me...How I feel very, very sad for them.
Next time you hear of things going on at Towneley, Ightenhill and other parks around Burnley make sure you come to see me...
