The Annual Burnley May-Day Festival 2008

A grey and dank day greeted the Radio Burnley team as they arrived at the Towneley playing fields in Burnley. This didn't deter the team or the thousands of people who attended the 2008 May Day Festival.

The sound stage was quickly set up and Tony Edwards began to welcome the crowds...

It wasn't long before we had our first stars lining up in front of the stage to show their prowess in synchronised dancing...Ladies and Gentlemen...the Burnley Belles....

Meanwhile, back in the marquee, the tombola team...Florence, Geoff, Janet and young Amy were run off their feet keeping up with demand.

The crowds were entertained to some fantastic music...Besides our very own Tony Edwards, on stage were the Hollywood Drum Band and the Red Rose Brass Band...followed by the local dignitaries and their respective speeches...in the arena facing the sound stage....Dogs of all breeds showed off their agillity to the pleasure of onlookers.

The May Day parade arrive from their walk from Burnley Center with all their fine banners

Charlie Dino was also there, roaming the field and making lots and lots more friends.

Hospital Radio Burnley and the townspeople of Burnley, would like to thank Mr. Jack Preston for his invaluable and tireless dedication for the running of the May Day Festival.

Jack, who has now retired from the May Day Committee still feels he is still a part of the event...and long may he do so....

Mr. Jack Preston
Have long and happy retirement......
From everyone at the station!!!
